NLP is an amazing discipline that has fascinated me for years. Pretty broad and all-encompassing statement that it is changing the culture, but it has it’s uses.

I think NLP has a number of benefits but also carries some risks; whenever people become 'disciples' of something there is a chance that they will cut off their critical faculties and allow confirmation bias to cloud their judgment - I've seen this happen with NLP. I whole-heartedly agree with you about the indulgent, long term nature of some psychoanalysis. Eric Berne, the founder of Transactional Analysis firmly believed in the one session cure, and I think there is much to commend his approach. A clinical pscychiatrist that I know is using brain scans to identify whether chemical or cognitive therapy will work for a given individual; apparently there are physiological clues to which therapy will be more effective. I think NLP definitely has benifits. Keeping it off insurance records is one of them. I’ve seen people personally that have gone on for more years than necessary drudging up the past. What good it that? What one thinks about one is. If the past was that bad leave it back there. I know easier said than done.
